Sapphiron - Naxxramas « Beef Tank

Sapphiron - Naxxramas

Who:

Sapphiron in the Frostwrm Lair of Naxxramas

Non Heroic

Strategy:

Sapphiron should be attempted with no less than 2 healers in the group (although 3 can help a lot). Only one tank is needed and the rest should be dps. There should be at least one person (2 is optimal) in the raid that can decurse Sapphiron’s Life Drain, this person will have to stay on top of decurses. Frost resistance gear isn’t required for this fight, but it can be helpful. A [Titanium Frostguard Ring] combined with a paladin’s Frost Resist Aura or a shaman’s Frost Resistance Totem (or both) is sufficient.

The tank should engage Sapphiron from where he spawns in the middle of the room. The tank’s back should be facing the entrance to Sapphiron’s room. The rest of the raid should choose which side they will remain on for the duration of the fight - all healers and dps will be on this side. Sapphiron has a massive frontal Cleave that only the tank should have to endure as well as an equaly massive Tail Sweep that nobody should have to endure and all melee dps should stack up around his hind legs avoiding both of these. Ranged dps and healers should spread out on the designated side and everyone should be sure to be within healing range.

Sapphiron has two phases that he switches between until he has only 10% of his life left at which point he remains in phase one.

All phases

Upon enganging Sapphiron the entire raid will be hit with Frost Aura. This Aura remains until Sapphiron is dispatched and can’t be avoided, but with frost resist gear the damage it (and Sapphiron’s other frost spells) causes can be minimized. Throughout the fight Sapphiron uses Summon Blizzard to invoke Chill. This is much like a mages Blizzard except that it is a lot larger and denser. Everyone besides the tank should avoid this at all costs as it does significant damage and a slowing effect which can be fatal in the second phase. If this is cast on the tank the tank should be healed through it - moving Sapphiron can cause Cleave and Tail Sweep to hit other raid members. The people in charge of decursing Life Drain will also have to be mindful of getting this curse off of other players durring all phases.

Phase 1 - Ground

During phase 1 Sapphiron remains on the ground and uses his Cleave and Tail Sweep along with the abilities that are used throughout the fight. Phase one is pretty much tank and spank and avoid Chill.

Phase 2 - Air

At 45 second intervals (until at 10% health) Sapphiron will enter phase 2 at which point he will turn to the side and take to the sky. As soon as he turns all raid members (including the tank) should move to the same side of the room that was designated before the fight but should remain a few yards apart from eachother. After taking to the air Sapphiron will cast Icebolt on two random players in the raid encasing them in an ice block and also hitting any nearby raid members that are too close to them for 2 to 3k of frost damage. Everyone else in the raid must run behind these iceblocks immediately and position the iceblock between themselves and Sapphiron in order to avoid Frost Breath which is cast a few seconds after the second Icebolt is cast. Anyone caught in Frost Breath will surely die so it is imperitive that everyone avoid it. After Frost Breath is cast the tank will need to move quickly to re-engage Sapphiron in the same place as before (or as close as possible) at which point Phase one begins again.
