Ignis the Furnace Master - Ulduar
Who:
Ignis the Furnace Master in Ulduar
Ignis the Furnace Master is an optional Ulduar boss in The Siege of Ulduar section of the Ulduar raid. He can prove to be a tough fight but with careful and precise execution is a fun kill.
Non Heroic
Strategy:
Ignis requires two tanks, at least 2 healers (3 prefered) and at least 1 of the DPS raid members must be ranged and should have a high crit rating - this dps member will be assigned to Iron Constructs (outlined later) along with the boss. All other DPS should be focused on the boss.
The main tank should start by either being missdirected to, or by self pulling the boss to one of the scorch locations outlined in the diagram below. Before the fight the raid should agree on a direction for the boss: clockwise or counter-clockwise. Throughout the fight Ignis will cast Scorch on the tank. This is a channeled cast that leaves Ignis stationary for a few seconds (he will not turn or move while casting it) which gives the tank enough time to move out of it quickly. After he is done casting it he will resume melee damage on the tank and the tank should move him to the next Scorch location. Scorch leaves a funnel shapped fire on the ground in front of where Ignis was when casting it. This fire stays up for a while and anyone standing in it will take damage, it’s a rather large effect so everyone should be careful not to get caunt in it. The main tank needs to be careful not to let the Scorch be cast into the water as it will not leave behind the funnel of fire which is used by the off tank (described next).

Throughout the fight Ignis will cast Activate Iron Construct activating one of the Iron Constructs lined up along his room. These constructs have a significant amount of health (over 3 million) and should not be taken down by the dps. The off tank should pick up the constructs as they appear and lead them into the Scorched areas left behind by Ignis. Tanks with fire resist spells or gear are good for tanking these as they too will have to stand in the Scorched areas until there are 10 stacks of Heat on the construct thus turning the construct Molten. When a construct is Molten the off tank should then drag them to the water where they will turn Brittle for a 5 to 10 seconds and no longer move or attack. When a construct is Brittle a ranged DPS (decided on before the fight begins) should begin to attack it until hitting it with an attack that deals at least 5000 damage, at which point the construct will explode damaging anyone near it. Because of the explosion the off tank needs to run from the construct as soon as it turns Brittle. When there are no Brittle constructs up the designated ranged dps should resume damage on the boss along with the rest of the raid. It is not a good idea to have more than 2 constructs alive at a time as they give Ignis a damage and haste buff.
Periodically Ignis will cast Slag Pot choosing a random raid member (but never the main tank). The raid member will be put into the slag pot located at his waste (our guild calls it his nut pouch) and will begin to take damage. This raid member will need the attention of healers while in the pot until released 10 seconds later. Healers can heal themselves while in the pot, reducing the amount of attention needed by other healers in the raid. When the raid member is released from the pot they are given a 100% haste buff for the next 10 seconds.
Another thing that casters need to watch for is Flame Jets. Flame Jets interrupts any spellcasting and prevents the caster from casting that spell again for 8 seconds. This is a fairly easy mechanic to overcome but it’s worth noting.
