King Ymiron - Utgarde Pinacle

Non Heroic

Strategy:

coming soon, probably not much different than heroic though

Heroic

Strategy:

This encounter takes a lot of know-how and quick thinking/reacting from the tank. For the most part the tank should tank him near the door because throughout the encounter he casts Screams of the Dead and runs to a boat causing whatever special ability the boat does.

From the entrance, these boats do the following:

  • Front Right Boat - Give him the ability to cast Spirit Burst, an AoE shadow nova for ~2k
  • Front Left Boat - allows him to summon an orb that does AoE shadow damage and moves around the room slowly. Ymiron needs to be kited away from the orb and party members need to stay away from it.
  • Rear Right Boat - Gives the target the debuff Spirit Strike that increases damage taken. Will stack over time!
  • Rear Left Boat - allows King Ymiron to summon 4 adds that can be AoE’d down.

There are 4 major things to watch out for:

1) The tank takes a ton of damage durring this fight due to Dark Slash and his other abilities. Rolling HoTs help a lot durring this fight.

2) When he casts his Bane ability ALL dps (including the tank) needs to STOP attacking him until the buff goes away (it only lasts 5 seconds). Anyone that attacks him while this debuff is up will cause shadow damage to anyone that’s near him at the time. There’s actually an achievement called Kings Bane for having not attacked him at all while this buff is up (the entire group has to do it).

3) The front left boat gives him the ability to summon an orb (glowing white bubble thing). This orb is fairly slow, but causes a ton of damage to anyone near it. When he goes to this boat the tank should go to the other side of the room and pull him over and then continue to run around the outside edge of the room avoiding the orb at all costs. This is seriously the most important thing about this fight and if your tank doesn’t get it right it’s game over.

4) This isn’t as tough/important but i felt that it was worth mentioning. The rear left boat allows him to summon 4 adds. Your AoE should be enough to take them out (prefer a DK for this)… the tank should try to control them as well.
